The z-probe is an accessory that helps you set the z-axis work zero for your carves. Easel knows the thickness of the brass puck and can determine how much to lower the z-axis so your bit touches the material.
You can test and enable the z-probe through the Computer Setup walkthrough in Easel:
If your z-probe is not working, try these steps. Make sure you turn off the X-Controller when making adjustments.
- Check your wiring is correct at the back of the X-Controller.
- Check the ribbon cables inside the X-Controller are fully seated. The "wings" on the clips should fold on their own when the connection is secured.
- Test the z-probe port at the back of the X-Controller using the Machine Inspector and a paperclip (or wire)
-
With the paper clip, open up Easel's Machine Inspector (Machine > General Settings > Machine Inspector). Try securing one end of the paper clip in the ground terminal and then with the Machine Inspector open, try sticking the other end of the paper clip into the z-probe terminal to see if things register. If it seems to be working with the paperclip, you may have a defective z-axis wiring harness. Please reach out to help@inventables.com
