The X-Carve Pro is our newest machine, designed to take your business to the next level. Here are some frequently asked questions users have about the machine:
Hardware
What materials can I carve?
Your X-Carve Pro can carve plywood, hardwoods, softwoods, and MDF. It can also carve plastics, including HDPE, Delrin®️, polycarbonate, acrylic, and Corian®️. Please note, in order to achieve optimal results when carving, proper cut settings and chip removal are required. Inventables continues to test and refine cut settings for materials and will provide updated recommendations in Easel when available.
Can I carve metal with it?
You can carve aluminum and other softer, non-ferrous metals. For optimal results in aluminum and non-ferrous metals, lubrication and tools specifically designed for metals are required.
How is the spindle cooled?
The spindle is air-cooled for easy setup and use.
Do I need to rewire my shop for it?
The X-Carve Pro plugs into a standard non-GFCI 120v outlet and/or breaker. Industrial-grade CNC machines that allow for the spindle speed to be controlled by the operator are powered by Variable Frequency Drives that are not compatible with GFCI outlets and breakers.
Can I attach a laser?
We do not have any plans down the line to support anything besides a router head for X-Carve Pro. This is for both safety reasons and our inability to offer quality software for these applications. There are some people making these modifications to their machines but they are considered unsupported upgrades, are not covered by and will likely void the 1-year limited warranty that comes with X-Carve Pro.
Is there an expander kit to turn my 4x2 to a 4x4?
We currently do not offer an expander kit to turn your 4x2 into a 4x4.
Is there an expander kit to turn my X-Carve to X-Carve Pro?
The X-Carve and X-Carve Pro are two very different pieces of hardware. The X-Carve uses a router and belt drive system, while the X-Carve Pro has an included spindle and uses ball screws and linear guides. While it’s not possible to expand your X-Carve to an X-Carve Pro, many customers are looking forward to running both machines out of their shop.
Can I use my own spindle?
We do not recommend or support the use of your own spindle. The included 2hp (1.5kw) spindle arrives ready to work with pre-programmed VFD (variable frequency drive).
Do I need to grease the X-Carve Pro?
The linear rails and ball screws on your X-Carve Pro come pre-greased from the factory and need to be lubricated every 100km of travel under normal use. Generally, customers should not need to regrease the linear guides or ball screws before 6 months of regular use. The customer should touch the rail after sliding back and forth to see if the rail is slightly greasy. If not, then lubrication is low and should to be replenished.
What is the maximum size material that can be carved (length, width, thickness)?
The maximum size material that can be carved is infinite feet long, 4ft wide, and 4 inches thick.
What is the weight of the X-Carve Pro?
Approximately 300lbs for the 4x4 and approximately 275lbs for the 4x2.
Is X-Carve Pro configurable? Can I add my own upgrades?
The X-Carve Pro machines are not configurable. Defects related to any third-party parts, software, components, or peripheral devices are not covered by the 1-year limited warranty included with your X-Carve Pro purchase. Alteration to any hardware or firmware included with the X-Carve Pro will also void the limited warranty.
Software
Can I test out Easel Pro before purchasing the X-Carve Pro?
You can sign up for a free 30-day trial of Easel Pro here.
Can I import files from another program?
Yes, as long as your program can export standard G-Code, SVG, or DXF files, the X-Carve Pro will work with other CAD/CAM software options.
Can I run Easel Pro on multiple machines?
Yes, and with our new Machine Profiles feature, you can move your computer from machine to machine.
Do I need Internet access to use Easel and X-Carve Pro?
Internet access is required to load and save Easel projects. Internet access is not required to work with a project once loaded or to connect to your machine and carve a project. If you do make changes to an Easel project while working offline, you will need to re-connect to the Internet to save them before closing the tab/window that the project is running in.
Are there any pre-loaded projects?
We have many Easel files available on our Projects Page.
Shipping & Setup
How will the X-Carve Pro be delivered?
It will ship via LTL freight in several boxes on a pallet with lift gate service included through our carrier. The size of the pallet is estimated around 69.09" x 30.11" x 22.64".
How much will shipping cost?
The shipping cost for the machine alone is a flat rate of $373.62. There will be a slight additional charge for the included surfacing bit that ships separately from the machine based on the delivery address. Any additional items purchased with the machine will add shipping cost to the total order. The best way to determine costs is to add an X-Carve Pro to your cart and enter the shipping address.
The X-Carve Pro currently is only shipping to USA addresses, including USA territories and military bases. For details, see this guide: Can I purchase X-Carve Pro internationally?
What size workbench do you recommend for the machine?
We recommend 6’x6’ for the 4x4 and 6’x3’ for the 4x2.
