The homing cycle for X-Carve and X-Carve Pro goes like this: the z-axis moves up and presses the homing switch then backs off. After the z-axis is actuated, the machine will move towards the left and forward until the X and Y switches are actuated then back off. The machine will then stop and stay in the home position.
When the Homing cycle fails, you'll need to ensure the homing switch actuators are in the correct position and the homing switches are wired correctly.
Homing Switch Orientation:
Z-Axis Switch: At the Top of the X-Carriage
Y-Axis Switch: On the Y1 Side Panel
X-Axis Switch: Behind the X-Carriage
Check Z-axis homing switch
On Post-November 2021 X-Carve kits (direct z-axis drive), you may need to slightly bend the microswitch arm on the Z-axis to ensure it actuates with the spindle mount.
Check actuator screws:
Actuator screws trigger the homing switch and, if put in the correct places, will keep the X-Carve on track to reaching the 0, 0 point on the wasteboard.
The x-axis homing switch actuator screw is located on the rear left-hand side of the Wide Makerslide:
The y-axis homing switch actuator screw should be positioned on the outside of the Y1 makerslide rail.
On pre-November 2021 X-Carve (belt drive), you may need to adjust the screw at the top of the z-axis. This screw is a hard stop in case your z-axis homing switch is not working.
Make sure that the screw is high enough for the spindle mount plate to hit the switch but low enough so that it will stop the spindle mount plate from crushing the switch.
If those are installed and the homing sequence still isn't working, the next step would be to check the status of those switches in the Machine Inspector.
Check the status of the homing switches
Open an Easel project and go to Machine > General Settings> Machine Inspector. There should be a section that says Homing Switches, with circles corresponding to the X, Y, and Z. If you press on the arm of a homing switch, the corresponding circle should turn green.
If they do not turn green, power off the X-Controller and check the wiring is correct. The red wire should be in the middle pin of the switch and the black wire on the "hinged" side of the switch.
(Image above shows red wire in the middle, black wire on "hinged" side.)
If your homing switches are working in the Machine Inspector but not during homing, it may be the spacer is slightly out of tolerance. Loosen the homing switch screw actuator and remove the aluminum spacer. This will allow the carriage to move a bit more over and the switch to hit the head of the screw.
You may also need to open up the X-Controller and re-seat the ribbon cable from the power supply interface PCB. The "wings" on the clips need to fold up on their own when it is seated.
