Upgrading from 500mm to 1000mm
While it seems easy to convert your machine from the 500mm size to the 1000mm X-Carve size, it can be expensive and will require a lot of time: you are essentially building a new machine. You should expect to put the same amount of time into upgrading your machine from 500mm to 1000mm as you did into building your machine. If time is of the essence and you are able to spend a little more money, we suggest purchasing a new X-Carve in your preferred size.
Many of the X-Carve's components are specific to machine's size. As such, you will need to replace many of the components on your current machine with the 1000mm components. Here is a list of the necessary parts you will need to purchase in order to upgrade your machine from a 500mm X-Carve (2015 model) to a 1000mm X-Carve (2015 model).
Upgrading from X-Carve 2015 model to the Current X-Carve Model
Once the size upgrade is complete, you can upgrade your machine from the X-Carve 2015 model to the new X-Carve style. Depending on whether or not you buy two MakerSlide rails for your x-axis gantry or buy the wide MakerSlide (as listed above in the Rail Kit section), you can buy the individual components listed in the X-Carve Upgrade Kit or buy the full Upgrade Kit.
The changes we've made to the new X-Carve can be categorized in two ways: improvements to machine functionality and improvements to machine assembly. If you already have a fully-functioning machine, we don't advise implementing the components that enhance the build process (new wiring, no soldering for your limit switches, etc.). We do not have a list of all these components at this time. You can get a sense of the new X-Carves components by viewing the instructions and Bill of Materials, but the SKUs listed in the instructions will not align with what you see on our site. Additionally, as mentioned above, some of the new X-Carve parts are not available for individual purchase (such as the new drag chain).
The vast majority of functionality improvements are already bundled for you in the X-Carve Upgrade Kit. One of the functionality upgrades not available in the Upgrade Kit is a change to your V-Wheel Tensioning scheme. Making this change requires disassembling almost your entire machine and building it back up again. If you are already upgrading the size of your machine, this is a good time to implement the V-Wheel tensioning scheme. Here are the parts required to upgrade the V-Wheel Tensioning scheme.
