If the Carvey fails to power on or stay on during a carve, it could indicate a hardware issue with one of the following components:
External Power Supply
Most versions of the Carvey have an external power supply. Follow the power cable at the back of the unit to the power brick. When powering on the Carvey, the light on the external power supply should be a solid blue. If this light does not come on or if it’s flickering, try plugging it into a different power source. Ensure that the circuit the Carvey is plugged into can supply 15 amps.
If there is no blue light on the power supply across multiple power sources, it will need to be replaced. Since Inventables has phased out the Carvey, we no longer have this available for purchase. However, a replacement can be purchased elsewhere. Here are the specifications:
Mean Well Product Number GST160A48-R7B
AC/DC Desktop Adapter 48V 160W
A replacement can be purchased through DigiKey.
You will also need a standard power cable for desktop computers.
Note: Some older versions of the Carvey do not have an external power supply, but rather an internal power supply. This is a propriety part that cannot be replaced with a 3rd party component.
Rear Panel Assembly
If the power supply light remains blue or if a replacement doesn’t solve the problem, it could indicate issues with the rear panel assembly. First, check that the cables are seated correctly.
Power off the Carvey, unplug the power cable, and open up the rear panel. There are 8 screws that hold the rear panel to the chassis. We recommend keeping them in a tray or dish so you do not lose track of them.
Please be careful when removing the panel, as the cables will be attached to it. If there is any dust or debris on the board or connections, used compressed air to remove it.
Check to ensure that all of the cables are properly connected and not loose. If any are loose, gently press them back into the port. Then, put the panel back on and try to power on the Carvey. If this does not work, the rear panel may need to be replaced. Contact CS via help@inventables.com and we can provide a quote for a replacement.
